The Four Phases Of Learning

I have spent just under 10,000 hours listening to interviews, talks, negotiations, presentations and more. I am truly surprised at how many uhms, uhs, like, right, you know, sort of, kind of, people randomly add into their speech. Very often the listener loses track of what the question or answer even was. This causes a lot of confusion and a powerful message can be lost.

Sometimes I hear people use words that are completely out of context because they don’t know the true meaning of the word. When I analyze it, it is clearly a direct translation which can cause a little snicker or two! Of course, nobody assists with correction for fear of causing embarrassment or offence. And so this poor executive blunders forth into oblivion, none the wiser. Sadly they will wonder why they can’t get people to take them seriously.

Using inappropriate slang is often a problem. Especially in a business setting.

If you find that people misunderstand you when you’re presenting your powerful message in an interview or talk, you will find it very useful to analyze what might be happening.

Of course it is hard work and it will take time but where are you going to go anyway? Time is going to pass whether you like it or not. So you can continue blundering forth with average results, or you can go on a journey with me where you will discover not only your articulate self, but also your successful self.

There is a simple 4 step process that I can take you through where you will smooth your path to becoming the executive you’ve always wanted to be. Articulate, confident and effective.

Before you embark on this process you fall in the category of UNCONSCIOUSLY INCOMPETENT. This is not an insult. It is merely a base from where to start when you find that you are not getting the results you want.

Through my program you will become conscious of the errors you make. When this happens, you will be classified as CONSCIOUSLY INCOMPETENT. Hooray! You are now ready to make some changes. These will be good changes if your goal is about being an effective negotiator/speaker.

Once you have reached CONSCIOUSLY INCOMPETENT, you have the opportunity to work with an English Communication Skills Coach to become CONSCIOUSLY COMPETENT. This is the toughest part of the process. But with a little bit of bravery and motivation you will be able to reach the stage of UNCONSCIOUSLY COMPETENT.

UNCONSCIOUSLY COMPETENT gives you the ability to improve on your performance in your career. This is when you will will rock at your job and secure future career or business opportunities.

Find someone you are comfortable with so that you can practice your English communication skills while you move through the 4 phases of learning. Most TEFL teachers/coaches are humble and will allow you to be vulnerable without feeling judged or ridiculed.
